Brickwork in Basingstoke
Brickwork in Basingstoke is mostly a matching exercise. The estates were built in large phases with bricks bought in bulk, which means a whole street can share one facing brick — good news, because the type is usually identifiable and still obtainable. The bad news is that a poor match on that kind of uniform terrace is glaringly obvious. We sample against the wall in daylight before we order.
Because the Basingstoke estates were built in big phases, identifying the facing brick on a given street is usually straightforward and the type is often still in production. That makes a matched extension genuinely achievable here in a way it is not everywhere. The flip side is that on a uniform terrace or close, a near-miss is more obvious than a deliberate contrast would have been — so where we cannot get a true match we will say so and suggest a clean break instead of a bad blend.

Usually yes. The estates used common modern facing bricks bought in bulk, most of which are still available. We take a sample off your wall, match it in daylight and show you before ordering. Where an exact match is not possible we will tell you and talk through the alternatives.
Yes, and a good many of them, particularly on the estates where the plots step. Anything over about 600mm wants a proper footing, and anything holding back ground needs designing — a retaining wall that fails is a serious thing, not a cosmetic one.
