Home renovations in Basingstoke

Taking a tired house back to something you would want to move into, room by room or all at once.

Home renovations in Basingstoke

What the job usually looks like here.

The renovation work we do in Basingstoke is largely the town’s first generation of estate housing coming round for a second full refit — the properties built in the 60s and 70s that were last done properly in the 90s. Typical scope is a rewire, a new kitchen, knocking the kitchen and dining room together, and dealing with a bathroom that has never been moved. The structures are sound; it is the services that have run out of road.

The Basingstoke renovation that comes up again and again is a three-bed estate house bought by a family who intend to stay twenty years: rewire, new consumer unit, replumb, kitchen and dining knocked together, new bathroom, and the whole ground floor relaid. Around eight to twelve weeks, and best done before you move in if that is at all possible. The wiring in these houses is very often original, and a 1970s consumer unit is the first thing a surveyor flags.

Questions

Home Renovations, answered.

If yours is not here, ring 07502 002750 and ask.

Does a 1970s Basingstoke house need a full rewire?

Frequently, yes. If the consumer unit is a rewireable fuse box, there is no RCD protection, or the sockets are round-pin or very sparse, it is due. We get our electrician to test and report before quoting so you are not paying for a rewire the house does not need.

Should we move out during a Basingstoke renovation?

For a room-by-room job, no. For a full strip-out with a rewire and replumb it is much better to be out, and if you are renovating before moving in, that is the ideal. We will tell you honestly which of the two you have got.
